WRITERS STRIKE COST ABOUT $2MILLION A DAY
Broadway
“Our estimate of $2 million a day was constructed as a very short-term thing, recognizing that as times goes on, travel plans are more subject to change,” Mr. Braconi said.On Tuesday, the fourth day of the strike, the city comptroller, William C. Thompson Jr., estimated that the economic losses from the theater strike amounted to about $2 million per day. The estimate was based on survey data relating to Broadway ticket sales, the proportion of tickets sold to different market segments, and the total spending of those patrons on tickets, dining, shopping and other nontheater activities.
